Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Substance Abuse Counselor to join our team. The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of addiction and recovery processes and be committed to helping individuals overcome substance use disorders. This role involves providing support through individual and group therapy sessions, conducting assessments, and developing personalized treatment plans. The Substance Abuse Counselor will play a vital role in fostering a supportive environment for clients on their journey to recovery.

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct comprehensive assessments to evaluate clients’ substance use history and mental health status.
  • Develop and implement individualized treatment plans based on client needs and goals.
  • Facilitate group therapy sessions to encourage peer support and shared experiences.
  • Utilize evidence-based practices such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Motivational Interviewing to guide clients through their recovery process.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of client progress, treatment plans, and any relevant data collection in compliance with HIPAA regulations.
  • Stay informed about current research in behavioral health and substance abuse treatment methodologies.
  • Collaborate with other healthcare professionals to provide holistic care for clients
  • Ensure adherence to ICD-10 coding standards for accurate diagnosis reporting
  • Assessment: Conduct thorough assessments to evaluate clients’ substance use history, mental health status, and treatment needs.
  • Treatment Planning: Develop individual treatment plans in collaboration with clients, setting achievable goals and outlining appropriate interventions.
  • Counseling: Provide individual and group counseling sessions, utilizing evidence-based therapeutic techniques to promote recovery and personal growth.
  • Crisis Intervention: Identify and address crises as they arise, providing immediate support and intervention to clients in need.
  • Monitoring Progress: Regularly evaluate client progress and modify treatment plans as necessary to ensure effective care.
  • Education: Provide clients and their families with education about substance use disorders, recovery processes, and available resources.
  • Collaboration: Work collaboratively with other professionals, including healthcare providers and community organizations, to coordinate comprehensive care for clients.
  • Documentation: Maintain accurate and confidential client records, including assessments, treatment plans, and progress notes, in compliance with organizational policies and regulatory requirements.
  • Professional Development: Participate in ongoing training and professional development opportunities to enhance skills and stay current with best practices in substance use treatment.

Education and Experience:

  • Master’s degree in counseling, Social Work, Psychology, or a related field.
  • Current state licensure (LCSW, LPC, or equivalent) is preferred or registered with the Department of Health Professions as a supervisee.
  • Certification as a substance abuse counselor (CSAC) is desirable.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in substance abuse counseling or a related field.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, and ability to build rapport with clients and work effectively in a team.
  • Familiarity with addiction theories, treatment modalities, and relevant state and federal regulations.
  • Compassionate, empathetic, and non-judgmental; commitment to supporting clients’ recovery goals.
